Android Device Manager Now Allows Users to Change Passwords Remotely

android device manager

Not too long ago, Google introduced Android Device Manager, a service that allows Android device owners to remotely track and secure their devices. Google continues to develop the service, and this week, Google added in the ability to change your device’s pin/password or even set a new password from a desktop remotely. Even if a password is not set on your device, you can set one if you think your device is in trouble. Pretty good looking out, Google.
If you have yet to activate this service, then we highly recommend doing this. This is the easiest way you can secure your phone from unwanted use. To activate, head into the Google Settings app, choose “Android Device Manager,” and then check both boxes.
To try out the new feature, follow the via down below and find your phone.

OPPO N1 officially unveiled, promises to redefine smartphone photography

Oppo_N1_rotating-camera

After many leaks and teases, the OPPO N1 has finally been unveiled in Beijing. The N1 has plenty of features, but probably the biggest standout is the 206-degree rotating camera. Also included is Pure Image, which is a hardware and software photography solution. It includes six physical lenses, a 1/3.06 imaging module, and f/2.0 wide aperture. The N1 also includes a light-diffusing LED flash, which includes a normal flash for back facing shots and a softer diffused light for front facing shots. Users can also adjust the brightness. Opening the camera app fast has always been an issue, but not with the N1. Users can open the camera in just 0.6 seconds from a sleeping screen via a simple 120-degree rotation. Lastly, the N1 supports long exposure photography of up to 8 seconds.

The N1 features O-Touch, which is a rear touch panel that allows you to operate the phone with one hand more easily. It’s at the back of the device, and with one finger, you will be able to slide up or down, left or right, tap, double tap and long press for different functionality.
The rest of the specs include a 5.9-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display at 377 ppi, a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU, an Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, 13MP rotating camera with dual mode LED for both front and rear shots, 3,610 mAh battery, USB OTG, Bluetooth 4.0, GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, WCDMA: 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz, and Android 4.2 with OPPO Color UI.
If quality matters to you, then you will also be happy to know that the frame is made with metal aluminum alloy, which is produced over a 20-day period along with a 14 step polishing process involving more than a dozen suppliers. The phone body is made with a ceramic-like material, which is smooth to the touch and will keep it free of fingerprints.
The N1 also comes with the O-Click Bluetooth remote control. You can attach it to your keychain and it will allow you to send remote commands to your N1 or force it to ring if you’re not sure exactly where it is.

OPPO’s Color UI has been updated as well. It took them 10 months to develop it involved 243 developers, 20,000 testers, and 37 patents. It looks like they have some really cool stuff, which includes a live weather theme that interacts with icons. Users can also draw patterns to start certain apps. Also, every time you get a call, you will see what the weather is in the area that person is calling from.
As was teased, Cyanogen was on hand at the event. OPPO will offer both a Color version of the N1 as well a limited CyanogenMod Edition, which will come with CyanogenMod pre-installed. Users who own the Color version will also be able to flash CyanogenMod from stock recovery if they wish.

About the only drawback with the N1 is the fact that there is no LTE. I know that it’s not a necessity, but it’s a little bit of a Debbie Downer.
The N1 will be available in white this October in China for a price of CN¥3,498 ($570) for the 16GB model. No pricing was specified for the 32GB version. The N1 will become available internationally in December.

OPPO N1 – Return to Innovation

OPPO N1 Redefines Smartphone Photography with 5.9” Screen, Rotating Camera, and Rear Touch Panel
BEIJING – September 23, 2013 – OPPO today announced the launch of the OPPO N1, the first smartphone from their new N-Lens flagship series. The OPPO N1 was revealed to a crowd of over 600 international press, fans and developers in a stunning visual presentation at the AOYA Exhibition Center in Beijing. With the groundbreaking OPPO N1, the large screen, rotating camera, rear touch panel, and incredible design come together to create a whole new smartphone experience.

World’s First Rotating Smartphone Camera

The OPPO N1 realizes new possibilities in smartphone photography as the world’s first smartphone with a rotating camera. Its revolutionary camera rotates 206-degrees, and will securely lock at any angle.
To help you capture breathtaking and vividly realistic images, OPPO N1 comes with Pure Image, a hardware and software photography solution. Pure Image on OPPO N1 features six physical lenses, an upgraded type 1/3.06 imaging module and f/2.0 wide aperture. Furthermore, OPPO partnered with leading optics companies to tailor make an image-processing solution for improved white balance, exposure and focus.
OPPO N1 has a special light-diffusing LED flash design consisting of a normal flash for back facing shots, and a softer, diffused light for front facing shots, with brightness tunable from the OPPO N1 camera software. Your front facing shots will not only be just as good as back facing shots, they will also be perfectly lit. Easily accessible, the OPPO N1 camera will boot from a sleeping screen in just 0.6 seconds via a simple 120° rotation. The OPPO N1 camera also supports long exposure photography of up to 8 seconds.

Beautiful Technology

The OPPO N1 is wound by two finely cut chamfers running along the sides of the device which guard the immersive 5.9-inch display. More than a year of work and over 20 different designs ultimately led to the simple brilliance of the OPPO N1 and the small but intricate camera, tested to last through 100,000 rotations. Its full metal aluminum alloy frame is produced over a 20-day period, during which it undergoes a 14 step polishing process involving more than a dozen suppliers. Strengthening the core of the phone, the frame adds an air of solidity and style to the OPPO N1. The OPPO N1 phone body is made with a smooth, ceramic-like material designed to keep your device free of fingerprints and smooth to the touch.

O-Touch Panel

O-Touch is an entirely new way of using your smartphone. A 12 cm2 rear touch panel makes one handed use for the large N1 screen comfortable and easy. With O-Touch you can scroll, tap, or snap photos – all without your fingers blocking the display.

O-Click Control

O-Click lets you remotely operate the N1 camera even when you’re away from the device. Simply position the N1 and step back. If you misplace your device, find it by setting off an alarm on the phone. O-Click fits on your keychain and supports a range of up to 50 meters, staying connected to your OPPO N1 via Bluetooth (BLE).

Innovation in Choice

OPPO is committed to serve the smartphone market with an open attitude. OPPO N1 ships with Color (based on Android 4.2), a unique Android operating system with over 400 unique features and improvements over stock Android. CyanogenMod is the world’s most popular aftermarket Android operating system. International versions of the N1 come with Color, and also the ability to flash CyanogenMod directly from stock recovery. A limited OPPO N1 CyanogenMod Edition will ship with CyanogenMod preinstalled, the first CyanogenMod hardware product in the world.
Available in 16GB or 32GB internal storage, the OPPO N1 is set to launch in early December.

Limited Edition Galaxy Note 3 featuring flexible display could be announced next month

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_3_Screen

The war to make the first phone with a flexible display wages on— LG was expected to end it all today with the Vu 3, but the flexible display rumors did not hold any truth as the announcement came and went without a mention of the new screen technology.
The title is still up for grabs, and rumors that surfaced today point to a Limited Edition Galaxy Note 3 coming out soon featuring a flexible display. It is also rumored that only a limited quantity will be produced, but getting it out and on the market would technically still qualify for first.
And remember, these days, if you’re not first, you’re last!

Does investing in a Rs. 40,000 plus phone make sense?

I wouldn’t be buying a phone costing more than Rs 40, 000 now. And neither should you. If you’d really like to get a fancy device, wait for a couple of months for the inevitable price drop. Investing such a significant chunk of money on a device that might be called outdated within a couple of months is just not worth it.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Vs SmartWatch 2 [Comparison]

The Samsung Galaxy Gear has more features than the Sony Smartwatch 2. These include a gyroscope and an accelerometer that can help users during their workout sessions.

Even though the Samsung Galaxy Gear is costlier than the Smartwatch 2, it is a better choice. There are also many Android apps that are compatible with the watch.

Sony is planning on bringing a few third party applications to the watch platform. This should increase the chances of Sony keeping up with Samsung.

The SmartWatch 2 has longer battery life than it’s counter part. This should make up for the other downfalls compared to it’s rival.

To sum it up, the Sumsung Galaxy Gear is a more ‘wearable’ gadget than it’s Sony counterpart.

BlackBerry Seeks a Sale by November

BlackBerry Seeks a Sale by November

BlackBerry Apparently Seeks Sale by November

Just days after Nokia fell into the hands of Microsoft in a multi-billion-dollar deal, another former giant in the mobile phone game, BlackBerry, wants to sell itself off within the next couple of months, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The struggling Ontario-based company said just last month it had formed a special committee to look at “strategic alternatives”, citing a possible sale, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships or alliances as possibilities.
The Journal said BlackBerry was hoping to “run a fast auction process that could be wrapped up by November.”
Tipped off by “people familiar with the matter”, the Journal said Thorsten Heins and his team had already held preliminary discussions with a select number of potential bidders – which reportedly may include a number of Asia-based tech companies – about selling off BlackBerry in parts or as a whole.
It’s not certain if any deal or deals will be struck soon, the report said, but BlackBerry’s committee is apparently keen to get the whole thing sorted as soon as possible to end any uncertainty. After all, business users and consumers alike will be reluctant to make any kind of investment in a platform whose future is far from clear.
